• This is the fifth installment in the Tex Murphy series of adventure games. The games in order of release are: Mean Streets, Martian Memorandum, Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive and Overseer.
• "Overseer" is the fourth of the Tex Murphy games to feature video. The first, "Martian Memorandum," incorporated small amounts of lower-quality video but mostly incorporated photographs that changed slightly at intervals, thus the need for game developers to distinguish between these "slide-show" videos used in games and the "full-motion" video of the CD-Rom era.
• Under a Killing Moon and The Pandora Directive also featured extensive FMV.
