Night Trap was originally developed by James Riley, Rob Fulop, and Tom Zito for the unreleased Control-Vision system (codenamed NEMO) which used VHS tapes instead of cartridges.

Star Dana Plato (Kelly) is known best for her role as Kimberly on the television show "Diff'rent Strokes."

Night Trap is infamous for its part in the 1990s Congressional hearings on video game violence. These hearings eventually led to the ESRB rating system.
